"My wife called me from neighbor’s garage sale a month ago. She told me there was a drill press there for $20. I bought it in a heartbeat, and picked it up a couple of week later when my son got back from college (needed his muscle). The owner said his Dad had given it to him as a wedding present and he was tired of moving it. A little scotch bright, cleaned out the half dozen mice entombed in the column, painted it and put it back together.

Nice DP he acquired. I just picked up an antique a week ago but I do believe it is better than most of the new stuff the big box stores are selling. Paid $75 for the unit and replaced the belt - works like a charm and looks cool!

I called them up a few years ago to get some parts diagrams for several of my #15's. The had small "binder" of stuff that I bought from them, sorry can't remember how much they charged. You may be able to get the info off of the OWWM/OMWM site.

55 Chev, you are correct. There is more steel in the table of your DP than there is in the whole DP at the Big Box store.

Thanks for the info. The owner of the DP in the first post and I are both from central NY - so I guess the '15' didn't have to go too far.

I have to admit that, while I have a lot of tools (and more ratchets than a human needs), I don't have a DP and would really like one. Hopefully I'll also luck into a find of an old US tool.

Buffalo Forge made (makes) some nice drill presses. The 15" models I am used to seeing have five speed pulleys, which makes lowest speed a bit lower than standard 4 speed drill presses. I had a post 1957 version (has a full belt guard) that had a 1/2hp 1140 RPM Master motor. The motor must have weighed 50+ lbs by itself. It had been dropped so the spoked handle was bent. I found a pre-1957 replacement (they fit) that had wooden pear shaped handles. No plastic ball ends here! The lowest speed was about 250 rpm, which was great for big holes in metal. I highly recommend them.
