Buffer wheel ID help

I bought this buffer at an estate sale today. The 3/4 hp motor runs great and takes a LONG time to slow/stop. I'm 73 years old and have never had a buffer before. This thing will do everything I want to do in the years I have left. I plan to buy cloth/rag wheels to put on it.

All that aside can someone tell me what these wheels are for? Are they something I'm likely to ever use? It looks like a knife sharpener. If so anyone got any advice for me? The odds of me ever trying to sharpen a knife with it are infinitesimally small. Should I just take them off and stash them away in a drawer never to be seen again 20241108_144731.jpg20241108_144731.jpg20241108_144731.jpg20241108_144731.jpg20241108_144731.jpg20241108_144737.jpg20241108_144731.jpg20241108_144741.jpg20241108_144747.jpg20241108_144756.jpg20241108_144803.jpg20241108_145940.jpg

I did this on a phone and can't delete duplicate pix. I'll fix it when I get to the desktop.

EDIT:
Even on a desktop I can't delete duplicates so please just accept my apologies and keep on keepin' on.

Is that running at 3450 RPM? I can't quite make it out on the label. If so, that's too fast for a knife sharpener.

The best in this category is a Tormek T-8, Swedish made, and a 10" sharpening stone wheel is turned at only 90 RPM and lubricated / cooled with water. I've got the Grizzley copy of this machine.

Sharpening wheel where the grit is applied to the wheel. Can't see the other, but it's probably just a plain wheel for final sharpening like a piece of leather would be used for.

Yep; 3450 rpm. Took 38 seconds to slow/stop.

Sounds like the consensus is that these are knife sharpener wheels. Since I'll never use them for that off they come to be relegated to some drawer where they will never be seen again.

Yes those are knife wheels. Look up “paper wheels for knife sharpening” I have one I use on my buffer as part of the process. I cheaped out and made mine out of a piece of mdf.
