I guess its time I share some pictures and tell a little about my barn. After completing building our house back in 87, I set about building my get away. I ran 100 amps along with telephone, cable and security down from the house. Prices on cedar were good in those days so I used cedar on the siding and the interior walls. I had salvaged some 2 X 8 and 2 X 10 fir from a lumber company that was being torn down and most of the framing is built from it. It had been brought in from the west back in the early twenties. I loved working with that wood. I've just recently finished enclosing the lower side so as to make more room for compressor, sandblasting, grinding and other dirty jobs I don't want in the car room. It's nothing fancy or grand, but it's my barn and I love it. So with no further ado....

If you want to see more you can visit Buick Barn

that's negative...the wheels are locked up, I had them loaded on a trailer with a forklift and had to jack them up and pull the trailer out from under to unload.

Cool garage, like the rustic look. My Mom bought a 55' Buick Special new, it was a great car that I learned to drive in.

Many fond memories of the backseat of that car.

Beyond awesome!

Your spread is my ultimate fantasy.
While I appreciate seeing the opulence of the deep pocket mansions,
and appreciate the slickness of museum-like places,
yours is my all time favorite...simple, historical,
and accomodates your car hobby.
And possibly even within the reach of a humble wage slave.

Love the old world charm of your place.I visit friends in Dawsonville when I am over from Australia and love that Georgia countryside.
I notice you have mostly early Buicks and I particularly like that 53 in the shed in your photo collection at Buick Barn.
I have a 63 Riveria and a 48 Hudson(custom)in my collection.

Absolutely love the character of your building and surrounds. I am just about to build another shed (steel and concrete) and while it will be functional and very much welcomed it would take a very large amount of money to replicate such character if that were possible at all.

Wow thanks y'all, I didn't expect such a warm and at times almost poetic response. I have pictures (you know the old Kodachrome's) stashed in a box somewhere of the building of the house and barn that I need to get out and "digitilize".

Bull... barnaholics...I guess that's us. I checked out yours in your link. not sure what I was looking at. Appeared to be an awesome old post and beam that was beiing resurrected and then a very nicely designed new old barn. I liked both very much!!!

So bluesman2a, do you live play or sing the blues in Dacula. Do you ever catch the Athens music scene

Bib Overalls, you're not the first to make that remark and I love it everytime it is said. Thank you. My wife and I designed the house and barn and have sought to maintain that old country feel since.

3bay, does this bring back any memories.

olerascal- that was downright poetic, I bet you are an ol' rascal aren't you

hudson48, well you've got another stop to make when you visit your Dawsonville friends again. would love to have you. Just let me know and i'll have a cold peach Schnaps waitin fur ya. Not sure which car you're referring to but I don't have any 53's. All 54's and a few 55 and 56 parts cars. Matter of fact I just sent one of the 54's down under. Shipped the tan and black Roadmaster Riviera to Ken Churchman (Rooster) over in Perth, west AU. Do you know him.

Again, thanks everyone for the nice compliments. and if you're ever in Athens, Georgia stop by and we'll sit on the front porch talk garages and watch the cows.

and uhh, if you stay into the night we may even go and tip a few

Thanks, BuickFarmer. Yes, my photobucket account has a bunch of stuff in there, including pics of both barns. The older barn was built by my grandfather during the 40s or 5os using salvaged lumber from an old mill that had been torn down. About five years ago, I did what I could to save it, since it was very nearly a goner. I jacked it up, replaced all the sills, added new beams inside, and replaced some framing. It needs more work to be as functional as I want it to be, but that will have to wait for me to save some money. The new barn I just built this summer, or I should say helped build. It's a modified post and beam, called a GeoBarn.

I just love barns!

Thanks BF I needed that  and yes, it does bring back many permanently embedded memories.

They for sure don't make them like that anymore, that thing is nicer than the sofa in my living room.

I actually didn't have to assemble that cabinet. I bought it, and a whole lot of other awesome stuff, from a guy on here in Boston who was moving to Europe. I got the blasting cabinet, a 60 gallon 220v compressor, and some cool storage cabinets from a garage for $500. He mentioned to me that it needs to be re-caulked, which I'll do before using it. Not the best quality, as you know, but it'll work for me.

Last evening right before dark we had a wonderful thunderstorm. Clouds with lightning came in from the north west and the south east and provided quite a lightning display with rolls of thunder literally echoing from the east to the west. But that was just the beginning. It was nothing compared to God's grand finalle of the evening and we had front row seats right on the back porch. A double rainbow with one end ending right over Buick Barn and the other over the south pasture. It was really breathtaking. Thought I'd share.

Beautiful building! That is the vision I have for the workshop I am building, but I can only do so much, then let time and weathering do the rest. Of all the old barns I've looked at I'm guessing the cedar like yours weathers into the darker tones while pine bleaches out to gray. I could only afford to trim in cedar then side with pine. Are your siding boards square cut or tongue-in-groove? Also, is there sheeting underneath the siding boards?

I really enjoy hanging out at The Farmer's place. The barn is as nice, and as comfy in person as it looks in the photos. And he built it ALL himself...not many guys can say that.

Would love to come visit ya, my brother and I have (2) 50 Sedanettes. He lives in Walnut Grove and I live in Sockbridge. One of them is an old Cali Kustom with cruiser skirts and lakes pipes (not running). Are you any good with striaght eights?

I've got nearly the same air conditioned bay. It's a little bigger (10x10), but I don't have that fancy air mover you got there.

Mine was streetside the other day, working on getting the '73 Duster's distributor and ignition sorted out. That 10x10 EZ up sure did make it more tolerable! I've set it up outside my garage too, several times. Gives me sort of an awning over the garage door.

Hey there! I enjoyed the photos. I'm just down the road from you in Winder. Do you ever enter your cars in any of the Dixie Cruisers cruise in shows? There was a pretty good one at Holly Hill in Winder a few weeks back.
