I'm needing 8 crates on pallets to ship goods cross-country. 48"h x 48"w x 92"l would be perfect but I'd take 96" if that would be easier. Heavy, metal brackets are the contents. 2000 lbs. per crate.

Do these exist in the market already besides on Global industrial? If you built these for me, what would you charge per crate?

Crazy as it sounds, call a large taxidermy shop. They crate and ship lightweight but fragile(relatively) items frequently. Think lifesize mount of deer all the way up to grizzly bear, and larger.

A machine dealer quoted me 100$ a few months ago for a crate that size. My gut tells me it would vary wildly, as in the case above $100 would barely cover the materials if that.

Just to be clear, are you looking for a crate or a wood box? I am not trying to nit pick at all. I work in a military packaging shop. A wood box has wood sides with no gaps and can either be plywood or natural lumber. A crate technically is just a wood frame around an item more or less. Again not being critical at all, just to be clear so you can get what you are wanting.

Maybe $100 for a good used crate that someone else paid top dollar for initially.

Yeah who knows. It was in the context of buying a machine from him, so I think he would have just been covering his costs. Nixed that and just went tarpped on a pallet/sledge. That alone had multiple 4x4 and bigger posts in it.. multiple species of wood, some of which looked like it came off the sea floor, all of it well used. I salvaged quite a bit of it and made a workbench, and have a few lengths of what I think is oak left over.

Buying that amount of lumber today would easily be several hundred dollars.

Do these crates need to stack? Can you just find a pallet the right size and strap the parts to it?

These will have so many small, slidey parts, I would prefer a box shape but really I need to test strapping/wrapping this down to pallets. Thanks. They don't need to stack, I guess.

Go to any major moving company near you and ask them if they have any used lift vans for sale. make sure you go to a big mover like united , mayflower , atlas etc. a lift van is a wooden crate 7 ' tall 7 ' deep and 4 ' wide. it is what we use to ship HHGs overseas. when they get too jacked up where I work we get rid of them, you can also buy them new at - victorypacking.com , you have to assemble them when new.

Since you're looking for large crates in multiples, you're going to want to contact your local industrial packaging/crating company.

They'll be able to design the crate to your specs and you can either pick them up or have a local courier bring them to you.

To give you an idea of what to search for on Google, our company uses these two local vendors-
https://www.packnetltd.com/
https://www.ipsipack.com/

We send them an email with the ID of the crate we need, estimated load, and where its going (international needs special wood).

To give you an idea of pricing, we were quoted $470 last month for this crate (78x42x30 ID).

I use IBC totes for firewood storage/seasoning. I suppose you could band a few together and pull the plastic totes out and you would have not only a pallet underneath but caging all the way around. Or just cut the top off the plastic tote and that would keep smaller parts in there.
