Looks like we finally have our piece of property. We should be closing in a couple of weeks after almost a two year search. My wife and son and his wife have been looking for about an acre of land to build on. We want to build a metal building home which is what initially got me on this site.

In a way, I am glad it took this long as I have learned so much by visiting this site. We ended up buying two 1/2 acre lots side by side with an older trailer on one lot. That is not what we wanted initially as we planned for my son and wife to live with us until they were able to build their house cash but it is what it is. At least they will have their own place for the next couple of years while they save up.

I will be doing as much of the work as I can. I will leave the slab, main plumbing and steel structure to the pros. We will finish the inside ourselves. Acting as the general contractor, I am looking for some sort of guide to follow as to what needs to be done in what order. I will first need some dirt hauled and a little dirt work done.

I am not sure how to schedule when the plumber does his initial work. Do the concrete guys frame out the slab and then the plumber runs the pipes in the ground or the plumbers do their stuff first? If any body has a basic guide, it would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Below is kinda what I have in mind. Now that we have the land, we can begin more detailed decisions.

I like the first one but with a little more color. My wide knida prefers the second one.

Thanks flat for that info. That was exactly what I was looking for.

e-tek, those are actually homes or a metal garage type buildings turned into a home.

I going this route for ease of maintenance for one. It will also get me a quick lockable shell which is important since I will be working on my house at night and weekends and will not have to worry about picking everything up when I leave to go go home. Just turn out the lights and lock the door.

One of the biggest benefit is a wide open shell which will allow me to design the inside however I want it.

We have a friend that built something like that. Awesome structure, he has the wood working shop of all wood working shops. All he has to do is open the kitchen door. It expands to include drive in storage for his Kubota, Bob Cat and a variety of implements and mowers, all on concrete. Of course he is a contractor so I wouldn't expect anything less!
