Build your own creeper?

Has anyone? If so, post up some pics, I am going to get some steel in the next couple weeks so I figured I could geta little extra, some vinyl and 4 casters and build a sweet one a hell of a lot cheaper than snapon. And do it my own colors with my own hands

Keep in mind larger diameter wheels will roll over nuts, washers, gravel etc better than small dia. wheels.

I was thinking 4" wheels would suffice, thats what the HD snap on creepers have, clearance/height isnt to big of a deal as I work on tractors, quite a bit of room under them.

I'm not sure where beating Snap-On at their list pricing became some sort of challenge.

Why not post up what you're shopping and perhaps some others here have some they've bought and used successfully.

I would like the option of being able to build it blue to match my box, but i suppose if there was a killer deal on a comparable black one I could paint the frame, I just dont want tohave to replace cheap casters in 6 months.

Replace 'em w/new polyurethane after painting before the creeper ever hits the ground....

Thats why I may as well build my own. have all sorts of foam and plywood. All I will need is the castors and stick of steel. I was just hoping someone else had been creative.

I think the reason creativity isn't too high out there is even a large fellow can get by for a long time on a cheapie. What I'm saying is other than the wheels being kinda small on mine, I can't complain which surprised me, a few years later. But now that you've outlined your wheel & color ideas, I better understand.

As far as quality casters, search the "Restored 1930's Auto Shop" thread on here; he's running some from a German supplier who seems to have a very broad selection.

My work is done on a concrete drive and the lowest possible creeper was what I wanted, so I made this underslung model.

lild,if you are going underslung,you have the thickness of your body to use as a guide for wheel height,i.e. you can use much larger casters and still have your body at the same height

I could see those spider legs bumping into everthing, causing much blue air. That's why I kept mine narrow. It was designed to slide between front jackstands when you are greasing, etc. and it does that.
