Building a 28 x 28 Garage

Got the 28 x 28 slab already poured. The 2 car garage will have two 9x7 garage doors. Should I put the 2x6 door jambs 1/4" above the slab or mount them directly onto the sill plates?

I'll make the rough opening directly 9' if I place the jambs on the sill plate. If 1/4" above the slab I'll have to make the opening 9', 3".

Reason for mounting door jambs on the sill plates is they won't rot away within a few years. I plan on wrapping aluminum on the 2x6 door jambs. The 2x6s will be regular SYP as pressure treated will put holes in the aluminum.

I know the door jambs will be harder to replace if mounted on sill plates but they will last longer.

I'm referring to door jambs alone. Not the door trimming mounted onto the jambs.

I decided to mount the door framing jambs separate from the walls. They'll be 2x6 PS SYP mounted 1/2" above the slab. I may put on trimming later but no aluminum wrapping. For the tracks I'll mount 2x4s against the jack and king studs which will mate next the 2x6 jambs.

I've built walls that had the jambs mounted within wall's top and bottom boards. The sill plates were used as the bottom boards on those walls. One disadvantage of that is the jambs will be harder to replace.

I'll be splicing two 14' walls together for 3 of the 4 walls. The front wall will have 3 spliced sections due to the two 9x7 garage doors.

Today I'll start nailing the rear wall together. I'll add some photos after the wall gets raised.

Working on this part time got all walls done in 2 weeks. Measuring and marking the top & bottom boards took longer than nailing the studs and sheathing. Got all 28' trusses installed 3 days ago. Took four of us 4 hours to get completed. One guy flipped them over with 14' post while 3 of us pulled them and held in place. Just needed to borrow three twin sided 10' folding ladders from my cousin.

I'll finish nailing the purlins on both rafter chords today. Plan on starting the gable sheathing today.

I'll be installing ladder type rafters for gable outlooks. I'll use GRX fasteners to mount them onto the gable rafter chords.

With the walls being 10.5' high I upgraded to 9x8 garage doors. Garage door company estimates they'll get here by mid December.
