Building a new 33X46 Cleary

Hi, new here but have been lurking to get ideas! I know, I've heard bad about Cleary but also have heard good and their regional plant and office is 20 miles from me not to mention I know the salesman real well. Building a 33X46 with 12' truss clearance inside. Using 2" vapor barrier in the entire thing and it'll have one 12'X10' overhead and a 16'X8' overhead, 1 man door and 3 windows. Going to use it to store the boat and my two classic hot rods. Already had a shop but that place is being sold so I lost the shop and have to build my own. It'll be right behind my house. I built my house in 2002 and dreamed about my own shop so luckily I thought ahead and built the driveway for it way back then. I've also already put a down payment on a 9000 lb. Rotary Lift with a company here that trades them out with dealerships and rebuilds them so got it at a good discount. Just trenched footings Sunday.

What is a Cleary? Why is your slab so high above grade? Welcome to the forum.

I have a 30 x 50 Cleary built on a slab just like you're doing.
So far no problems, but would have done few things different.

How do you plan to finish the inside.

A Cleary is a brand of pole building similar to Morton or Astro. Inside is all going to be the 2" blanket and left unfinished for now. I do have a bench and shelves and things like that but don't have any plans for finishing out the walls yet. The reason the slab is so far above grade is because you can't tell it in the picture, but we are on a side hill. The back of the shop the slab is sitting on grade but the ground slopes that much. After we do the approach I'll move some dirt in to grade things out.

About 10 years.

Would have gone with the infloor radiant heat.
Higher sidewall, 12' instead of 10'.
Probably a scissor truss instead of regular.
Maybe a shingled roof, the steel roof is loud even in a light rain.

Not complaining, it's a nice shop.

I had a contract to build a Cleary building about ten years ago on a five acre lot I own.

Too bad the ******* salesman didn't know building code to know that the county didn't allow buildings on vacant lots that weren't zoned as industrial or business. Also too bad that he drug his feet so long before telling me that the building went into production, but they couldn't deliver it to me. I lost my deposit on that one.

Glad to see you don't have that problem wadd2. They do build a nice building.

So far I'm ok with how they're built. The thing that is really driving me crazy is the crews work ethic. Show up at 8, ***** about it bein hot, quit at 130 or 2. I really wish I didn't know anything about construction and really wish I didn't have a work ethic because then it wouldn't bother me. I think I'll like the building when it's done. The only reason I didn't put this one up myself is because I've got too many other irons in the fire. I teach Industrial Arts and Construction and am a football and wrestling coach but I own my own construction business and build houses during the summer so I figured I'd let them build it while I'm out making some money. It's just driving me crazy. I told the salesman if they ever want to really make some money, sub contract us to put these things up. I could put 3 up to this crews 1, that I know.

That's what Im afraid of! I gave them a deposit to get started. He still said they're 6weeks out

Well, up til now it's been good. They actually delivered the materials and started 1-1/2 weeks earlier than they told me they would when I made the deposit. I think this crew is trying to make up for time gained though Today he showed up with 2 extra guys and I got all excited thinking of how much they'd get done. Well, he had them because a foreman on another crew was sick so they worked 1/2 day on mine and left to work 1/2 day on his

Update

Tomorrow framing for a row of lights that won't be on a truss. Power is trenched in and panel is up. Monday Electrician will wire the plugs and start wiring lights and Tuesday the 2 post Rotary lift gets installed. Move in in a week or so!

Glad to see it turned out ok, those forst couple of pics had me worried. Talk about about a bunch of freaking messy slob construction guys.

Yeah, the crew was young and left a lot to be desired. I will say this though, all I had to do was make a call to my salesman and within an hour or two the office had contacted the crew and let them under no certain terms to fix what was wrong and in the last 2 weeks the salesman has been out here 5 times to check on the progress and make sure things were right. I'm happy with the building however had I not known construction, there are a couple things I think that would have gotten screwed up and missed by the manager. They were major too, so that's disappointing. I'm fine and the building is built right, now. I would worry though having that crew build one for someone that didn't watch them and didn't know construction. Other than that, the quality of the building, materials, and customer service has been great.

Update

Today the electrician got 4 of my 6 rows of lights in and running. When all said and done I'll have 6 rows of 8' 4 bulb T8 fixtures for a total of 72 bulbs in the building. First two pics are without lights on and it was midday so a little deceptive since the windows let in quite a bit of light. The 2nd two photos are with 4 of the rows on so 12 fixtures. Tomorrow morning just have to decide on the exact location of the lift and it will be installed and electrician will probably finish tomorrow also so it will be move in time!

So couple ?? where are you located? I had aCleary salesman come out looked at the lot told him what I wanted. He sounded great had all these ideas, said he would draw up some plans and get back to me...that was 4 months ago! So I'm leaning towards a Perma-Column but those go down about 4 foot, your bracket looks to cost a lot less " not saying that is bad". So they go in 8" and stick out a foot? I'm looking at a 16' eve height so I'm not sure building Dept would go for those. Anyway looks good, I do like Cleary buildings.

Update with lift installed!

Last update with pics until after move in if at all. Shop is finished and if I wasn't ******* this weekend I'd be moving in. Finished the rest of the lights and installed the lift. I just had to try it out on what is probably the biggest thing I'll lift on it and it worked perfectly. I really scored on this lift. $1200 and it has almost no wear on the mechanical parts. Sure there's some scratches here and there and normal wear but all the arms and pins are as tight as a new one. It should be the one and only lift I ever buy.
