Building a new garage

Hi,
I am just looking into the future, and would like to replace my current 40x26x9
garage with a 40x60x14 pole shed it will run anywhere from $16,000 to $25,000 in my area. I'm 22 and would just like to build this shop as soon as possible so I can install a lift in one insulated stall so I can be wrenching on days like today where it was -20F at 8a.m. So I am just wondering how everyone is funding there garage project? I'm thinking save for a couple years then take out a loan for the remaining. What are you guys planning?

I built mine piecemeal as time and money allowed. Took a few years from when I poured the slab to when I put the roof on. Then insulation, then an add on, then sheet rock... In your case I would consider having someone put up the poles and roof first, and finish the rest myself, but if you get the right guys you would not save all that much.

It took me 40 years to have a house, and another 10 to get the barn. You are already ahead of the game. Don't gamble the house on a loan unless your job is rock solid.

Start saving now.

You don't have to have it now. That's part of the problem with the housing industry now. People kept borrowing against the house to buy more and more. Now they owe more than their house is worth.


Take the time to plan everything out.

Slow down and plan it out, including finances, otherwise you might just be building some one else's garage.
