Thought you guys might want to see some pics of the new garage. It's not going to be anything outrageous, mostly a place to park cars. Most of the work will be done in the smaller, unheated, older, collapsing garage down by the road

As you can see, no internal center beam for support. It uses a large laminated beam running across the middle to support the roof.

Here's a shot of the other garage from the road. It sits right on another road. It's the puny building next to the barn . Still a two bay garage, but not too deep.

You have got to love Microlaminate beams
I have a few in my house but went with big honkin' steel in the garage and basement.....so it required less
support posts over some large spans.
It looks like you excersized restraint in the attached garage, as in you could have easily added at least 1 more
bay (and ceiling height) without much difficulty.

Or are there future expansions planned?

Well, the house is one of those pre-designed ones, so pretty much everything was set out before we started building. We did make some changes, and actually made the house longer with the bumpout dining room. The house was totally stick built, just pre-designed. Went up EXTREMELY fast, we're talking 2 weeks from foundation to where it's at in that last pic.

Also, I don't know why the garage floor isn't poured yet... maybe because of how cold it's been. The basement also isn't poured yet, but I think they have to backfill the foundation first.

Anyway, it's not technically my house, since my dad is the one building it. But, you know... I still get to live there

Looks good. (I'd want to snag that large barn for myself, though.) You won't regret not having those steel columns in your way. That was one thing I made sure of when I did mine. I can move cars around on dollies or now the lift & not be restricted by a pole.
