I have been building a rolling stand for the plasma cutter I recently purchased. It is just about ready for primer and paint, which it should get this weekend if the weather holds. Has a place to wrap the torch, two cord holders for the power and ground, and also an air dryer. Tread plate, wrench pull handle, storage tray under the unit for storage of consumables. Should take paint well. Chris

Nice Job! I need to build a cart for mine. I bought it, put it straight to use, and haven't had a break to take the time to build a cart yet. Yeah....It's a real PITA dragging it around and dealing with torch, ground cables.

Wheels are all steel heavy duty and work great, way over rated for this appliction like at 600 lbs. (with cutter this will pay about 150 pounds) Actually got a good deal on the wheels at the local Tractor Supply store. The plasma cutter is bright blue, I think I am going to prime and then paint the stand rustoleum industrial gray. With all the tread plate it should contrast well and look good. Lots of blue and gray things around my shop. Chris

Got my stand primed and painted today, and plumbed for air, with an air dryer. Went with aluminum rustoleum, for something different. Have some other aluminum tread plate stuff in my shop, so this stand should fit in. Chris

Have to get my cutter back from a buddy, who told me he just had four squares of plate to cut with it, when I lent it to him,..... of course that was three weeks ago. Will definately post a picture with the cutter mounted on top. Chris

May I stick my $0.02?
thanks
1. House between filter and plasma should be copper, aluminum or plastic. No steel, No rubber.
2. Do not coil handle house so tight. Minimum 2 ft diameter.
3. Consider to add spot for a gas bottle, just in case you doing some very special job.

Looks excellent in this color!

Very cool stand,But seems awful big for a small cutter. Are you going to cut metal on the base?

I built the base large for a couple of reasons, first I wanted something very stable with a low center of gravity, that will roll around the shop easily. I fixed the base so I can put grinder's sanders, steel, storage etc with the unit and roll them all around. This is a small inexpensive HF plasma cutter, but it actually will do some pretty serious cutting. I will likely upgrade (larger/heavier and more expensive) Miller/Thermo unit at some point. I built this so it would be easy to modify for that different unit someday. Chris

Y'know, now that I consider it, in all it's painted glory, that wrench was a VERY COOL touch. Something so simple, yet truly INPSIRED! How many of us have old wrenches/tools that can be "re-purposed" in such ways?!

Thanks for the inspiration - now I'm gonna be bending/attaching old tools to my stuff this weekend!!

I have two plasma cutters and have used many of them. All of them came with a piece of rubber hose to run from the outlet of the filter to the plasma itself.

Why do you say to use other than steel or rubber? I'd think one would want more flexibility than copper or aluminium would offer.

While I think some of these carts are cool, I can't justify the time to build one when I can get a suitable unit from Harbor Freight for as little as $40 on sale.

Also, I think too many people try to put too many tools on their carts and they start to get cluttered. Having just gotten a new welder that's going to be dedicated to aluminium, I'm into yet another welding cart and specific tools.

I agree on building carts, it doesn't make financial sense when you can buy them for $40 or $50. But if you have the time, skills, tools and materials nothing if more satisfying than fabricating your own custom stuff, and building it your own way. The more I build the better I get at it, and I get a huge kick out of building my own shop stuff. Chris

no meter what brand of plasma cuter you are using, clean cuts and life of consumables is very depend on quality of air you pumping into. This is why 5 micron filter-drier installing on airline. Now, if you have any house which can shed some small particles (bigger then 5 micron) quality of cuts is degraded. Rubber with time (5 years or so) start to crack. Still gets rusted and particles of rust separates from tube and contaminating your plasma... Ideally, you want to install filter-drier directly on to plasma cutter. Some think like on my picture.

This is why I also suggested to have an option for some inert gas tank. Some times (if you do this) you have very important/expensive cut to do which is MUST to be perfect. In this situation instead compressed air you can use gas.
