Going to start construction on a 32'X56'X16' pole barn this spring. The land is pretty flat already, but will still need something to ensure the pad, and the building is level. I have been watching on EBAY to see what is out there, as I have no experience with either a transit or a rotary laser level. I saved this one in my watched items;

Does anyone have any experience with this or similar? Would that do the job? Or would I be better off with a transit?

Don't ask.
I use a hose with a section of clear tube at the ends. Simple and cheap, good enough for the professionals for many centuries. Water doesn't lie.

I agree with Leaflesshadetree. The hose actually does work and I've seen foundations built using it.

If you want to go with the tech, maybe even to back up the hose results, then I'd definitely RENT.

I found a decent deal on a CST/Berger dual slope rotary laser on C/L.
It allows you to shoot a grade for drain tiles and such. With a magnetic base for the remote you can attach it too the machinery you are running to check grade as you go.

I'm planning on replacing my septic system so it will come in handy for more than just my barn.

So can you use this by yourself? It seems that a helper may be required?

How about strings and levels. This is what I use when I am leveling a building site. I have a transit that i use for rough-in and or tile work but always migrate back to strings and levels for accuracy for final grade. Find the high spot, set your posts accordingly in regards to depth, then string line level around the perimeter for level, mark, then set a grade girt board and use strings an/or striking board to level your final grade.
