With water, A/C, and electricity, it sounds like all you'll need is a futon... That way you have a complete apartment when the wife gets mad!

For something that big, I put a combo A/C & heat window unit in place. I wouldn't even think about putting a split system in there, and I am a former A/C guy. Make sure you size your wire right the first time, and give yourself plenty of room for future upgrades (welder, compressor, oven for paints or powder coating, etc.). Without doing the math on it, I'd guess 2 or 4 AWG wire would be a good place to start, and I'd certainly have a sub-panel in the shop.

What kind of floor/foundation are you going to have?

Any way you could make the height a bit taller, like 8' or so?

I built a 10x16 shed last summer.

Built it on 3 skids for foundation, PT joists, 3/4 ply flooring, fully insulated, finished gyrock inside, dormer, wired w/8 outlets, 3 hanging lights, VCT flooring...I used a ridge vent along the whole roof with vents cut at the end of each roof rafter. If i put my hand to the outside holes, i can even feel a breeze, so I figured it's working.
In the winter I have an oil filled heater that I plug in and in a few minutes it's fine for working in.

Matthew.

I built my own 12 x 20 shed. I used a gambrel roof. The advantage of it is that it gives me a readily accessible, large upper storage space. Using the gambrel rool is like adding a 1/2 story to the structure.

It does have vents in the storage area. I also have 2 windows in opposing walls (next to one another in the right front corner of the structure.
