Hey all,

New to the website, have a cool project underway, looking for a few ideas and solutions. In brief, I'm building a 25x16' shop under a deck which is essentially a separate building underneath. Gonna have 220/110 (100amp panel), a PTAC unit, and have just started putting up insulation in the ceiling. Plan to insulate the walls and cover them with a mixture of plywood and pegboard, and put down foam with plywood or OSB for flooring.

Use of the shop is getting the kids interested in the workshop, and general handyman projects, perhaps delving into nicer projects, for which I would have to invest in a planer (probably one the "portable" models), and maybe a jointer. I have an average table saw, and could schlep an old (but serviceable) radial arm saw up from B'more. I've a reasonable assortment of power hand tools.

My first question is essentially this: I think I will get a reasonably cheap but smooth plywood for the ceiling, but for the walls and the floor, OSB vs plywood? The floor will be newly poured concrete, and with a 1 1/2 inch foam board laid down over a 6mil poly sheet there should not be much water intrusion. The size will accommodate full 4x8 sheets of T&G material, so I feel that the OSB would be an appropriate choice. I'd go ahead and KILZ (or equivalent) it twice in order to prepare for painting with a deck-worthy paint.

The second question is... powder nail vs purchase/rent a hammer drill for Tapcon screws to secure the flooring? Could an impact driver do the job?

Thanks in advance.

Phil
