Where do you want to build it? In the basement, in an existing garage? Also, how cheap is cheap?

Since we have no idea where you are, how much room you have, what sort of tools or skills you have, how large you want or what you even want to work on inside, the best vague answer is the one above.

Buy a used shed on Craigslist and have it moved to your property.

You can but used much cheaper than you can build yourself unless you are really resourceful.

for $2500 I would skip the used shed and get a carport with sides..

Depends how good you are at scrounging stuff up cheap/free. Something basic with a dirt or gravel floor could easily be done in that budget, depending on size. Ain't neccesarily going to be pretty though.

For $2500.00 you wont get much other than the basement or a garage conversion. If you just want to get away from the wife, just build a 14X14 storage shed -far out in the backyard and run your DIRECTV cable out there for the ball games and races.
