I am planning to build an attached garage onto my house. The plan is to build it into the hill same as my house is. Due to the layout of my house this will be my only option as to where I can attach it to the house. The cons will be I have to walk into the house through the basement. The pros is I can add living area above the garage and have an additional living space added onto my home. Has anyone done a similar project to this and having any do’s and don’ts? I have attached a picture of the side of the house I plan to attach it to.

You obviously have a ton of freedom there, so you can just whatever you want in terms of layout.

The only "don'ts" I know of are about not burning the house down if a car burns. To be honest, there's no preventing that, but there are some laws and items in the building code that are supposed to slow it down by about 30 minutes. There are some very particular requirements about the boundary between the cars and the people. Depending on where you live, it may be that nobody "official" will ever look at that.
