Hi folks, just trying to get some input here. I have some old garage doors that need to come down. They're 50+ year old, barn-style doors. I asked a contractor how much it'd cost to rebuild them and he said, $5K... I know we all have to pay for quality sometimes, but c'mon... (And I know he wasn't going to use cedar!)

Of course, I've been searching Youtube for recommendations. Most videos show this kind of style door.

But I stumbled upon this style of making barn-style, garage doors. And this makes sense to me... Are there any pitfalls building a door in this fashion? I guess, being stuck inside while the light starts getting dim... hahahaha

I built 2 8 ft wide by 14 ft tall and 2 8x8 doors like your picture shows. ( The picture for the youtube video. ) I just attached the metal siding to the 2x6s - no plywood. I used - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson...Gauge-Galvanized-Mending-Plate-MP36/100374920 - plates (on both sides) to hold the 2x 6s together. That is what was used to build my trusses. The doors are on rollers. My pole barn is 20 years old and the doors work perfectly.
