Hello,

I am getting my first garage. It is in hudson valley NY. I am building 24x24. I just got an estimate for the concrete slab at 7800. This icludes the slab and a 2 foot wall. No footings.

Does this seem expensive? When we built our house it was only $13k 40x25 with full basement.

Thanks and Happy Easter.

Curious what it includes?

Excavation, fill and sub grade compaction, re-bar, wire mesh, fiber?

The more you tell us, the better we can help.

Copied from quote:

"Not Included in Price: Brick or Block work, Under slab Styrofoam, Sino tubes, Insulation, Waterproofing, Excavating, Fill or fine grading and compacting, Concrete testing, Exterior piers, Winter Concrete, Winter Conditions or Removal of Snow, Caulking of concrete joints or Contraction joints in walls. Extra concrete for improperly excavated site or forming on rock & excavation supervision is chargeable.

Poured Concrete 24’x24’ Mono Slab Foundation: $7,800.00*

*6” Slab with 24” Haunch

2 Bands of #4 rebar around perimeter

6x6x10 mesh

6 mil poly vapor barrier"

I am waiting on another estimate. I was just suprised that this was 7800 when for our whole house was 13k.

Good investments should double in 7 years.

Shouldn't prices?

Bill

As with your first reply that just picked on the the terms I used because they weren't exactly what you would have used this is no help.

I thought people asked questions at forums. I apologize if not all my terms are exactly what you would use. I am sorry if I offended you with this question or if you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, got into a fight with the misses or are just a miserable person in general. I do not know what I did to you. If it is something please let me know.

I am just wondering if this is a decent price. I have no idea. Maybe you should stop posting here and go run for political office since all you do to answer someones question is to ask more questions.

It seems quite high to me. If it included excavation, fill and compaction then I would feel it was a fair price.

Their quote also needs to include concrete strength (2,500 psi, 3,000 psi or 4,000 psi).

Keep in mind that the excavation, fill and compaction are as, if not more, important than the concrete. This is especially true on a mono slab foundation.

Is the site location fairly flat and dry? Any trees that need removed?

Thanks for your help. Yes it is fairly flat and level There are no trees in our yard. It was freshly graded and seeded in 2010.

This miserable response won't get help.

3 BIDS (Not estimates) from QUALIFIED contractors on a tightly specified job description, itemized and adjusted to get apples to apples,is what you need.

When you get that, you will know what is a reasonable bid.

It says poured concrete but I wonder if that means supplied?

Roughly 13.5 yds of concrete would be around $2000 cad. If that’s included I don’t think his price is terrible but like you said should include ground prep. The 2’ walls will add a bit to cement I didn’t include that in my guesstimate.

If it were me I’d also up the slab to bar not mesh and my perimeter would be 15m rebar. Or equivalent to 5/8” whatever you would call it down south.

That's great and should help to keep costs down.

Give the thread in my signature line a read for some additional info.

Great information on Concrete slabs. I know so much more now and know very important questions to ask. Thanks.
