Hi everyone,

I've been reading on this forum for a long while and thought I should say "hello" and "thanks" - the info is so good, I haven't needed to post any questions. Love all the photos of builds, too.

I have a 20'x24' detached build in progress (concrete is done, building goes up this week, I'm just the electrician for it) - and let me tell you, reading about everyone else's problems with neighbours has really helped. This neighbour of mine went so far as to try to colour me as a thug and a criminal in the zoning variance appeals meeting, but having read about all of the nonsense other guys have dealt with really helped me keep my cool (consequently, she pretty much had a meltdown, thus securing me the variance).

Granted, I'm not a saint... the surveyor's stakes shows that her fence is on my land... and to quote her "I just don't think bylaws should be broken! He wants to break the law!" Naw, I'm such a law-abiding fella, that an injunction is forthcoming to get that fence relocated

Anyway, thanks for all the good reads and I'm looking forward to getting some photos up!

Welcome to the forum from another Manitoban! I'm just down the road from you.
Good luck with your neighbour. I'm glad that I have decent people living around me, no hassles at all when we built our garage this summer.

@Scout Driver: Oh yeah, I like it - plenty of trees, plenty of heritage buildings. And really, my neighbour has always been particular about people doing things her way - she used to leave notes in my mailbox suggesting that I water this plant, or weed around that plant. Just took it in stride - she's pretty old and set in her ways. It wasn't a surprise when she disapproved, just the way she expresses it, is all.

@Boyd Who: I definitely envy you folks living outside the city - I really thought about that when I was looking for a house. I bought my place 2 years ago and it's my first house (I'm 26), and the question of where to live was mostly dictated by being able to say "my place is just 10 minutes from here..." on a friday night :bounce:

I hear you about being close to everything. We moved out here from Calgary...quite a lifestyle change!! We actually looked at houses in Wpg before deciding on Neepawa. Both my older brothers live in the 'Peg, and I lived there for a few years back in the 80's. Gorgeous city, but we really wanted to get away from city life. We miss the convenience on occasion, but we're loving the slower pace.
