Ok guys .Ive searched this forum and couldn't find any info.
Just wondering what to build my new shop out of. Should I use block or build like a pole barn? I'm asking both price comparison as well as heating efficiently. I know I'll have to insulate the pole barn. Has anyone got some numbers? Thanks

I've considered the same, My figures were a wash, block is usually $2 per block layed, unless you lay them your self and poured your own footer, then it may be cheaper, I was looking at a 30x64x14 block if i hired it out I was thinking I had over 3000 blocks needed at nearly 7k in block for the walls, 2k excavation, 3k for footers, 6.5k for 5" floor, and 5k for trusses/metal roof. $23,500 Now on the pole barn you need no foundation, just dig holes set posts and frame up, the materials for a 30x64x14 pole barn in my area was 10k, or the built price was 16-18k, then add the floating slab floor 5" at 6.5k $23,500 southern IN prices

Ok, this helps. Then you'd still have to add insulation costs to the pole barn.

Here in Michigan you have to insulate the block also, for heat and A/C.
Pole construction makes it easier to hang stuff on the walls as opposed to block.
Insulating a pole barn uses up no additional inside space because you just insulate to the 6" poles.
9 or 12" Block already eats up inside space PLUS the required insulation thickness which actually reduces your sq footage even more.
In my experience a wood building "feels" warmer then a concrete block structure because the cold doesn't soak into the wood like it does block. But, that's up here where we get a lot more cold then you do in TN.
I would think about what you will be doing inside that would make the difference between either building material.
