Building my 28x36 pole barn

Like many other threads I've read, it's now my turn to show my barn build. I've been reading this site for a long time as I've dreamed about starting my barn, and now it's a reality. I hope this is helpful, or at least interesting for someone.

So the specifics are: 28x36, 4/12 pitch, insulated roof, wainscoting, one entry door, 2 slide doors, ridge vent, 14" overhang and soffit.

I'm planning to pour the floor at a later date, and I'll also be installing the soffit sometime over the summer. I prepped the site, but I'm having some help with the build.

I had to do some creative earth moving to direct the water flow around the build site so it would dry up. I wanted to be sure I didn't have any pumping when I laid down the rock, so I put down a soil stabilizing woven cloth on the dirt and the rock on top of that. It really worked nice.

More progress. I really liked the process for the top band. 2x12s sandwiching the 6x6 and through-bolted.

That looks like a nice, solid connection. Looking good so far.

These pics show some of the grading work I had to do. The water comes off the road and it's also seeping through the ground from under the road and it leeches out into the ditch I just dug to the left of the barn. Hopefully this will control the drainage. It's just been raining so much that things can never dry out enough for me to finish the grade.

The first pic shows gravel leveled out to the building as I called it a wrap about 10:30 a few nights ago. I was trying to beat the coming rain so it'd drain better and not splash red mud up on the metal.

And the next pic is just showing progress.

Looking good. That swale should catch a lot of the surface water from above. I had to do that on a previous house. Amazing how much it helped dry up the basement.
