Building my new house

Just found this site and thought I would share some pics of the house that I am building right now. Im doing all the work myself except for the utilities started it about 4 and a half months ago, just working on it after work and on the weekends with my uncle and grandfather. Im a 23 yr old journyman union carpenter and this is my second house start to finish, but the first one for my self. I just plan on selling it after 2 yrs and doing it again, if the market recovers.

The plans my grandfather drew up for me, but I made a few changes

Jump ahead 4 weeks and this is where im at 2 days ago. I figure since I started i have lost 10 good working hours due to beer and future neighbors wanting to stand around and bs with me about the house.

I will start setting the trusses tommarow, all gable ends. Im thinking i should be finished with it in another 4 months, tryin to beat winter.

Sorry dude, in Chicago, OM is considered cheap teen swill. When he first said Old Milwaukee I thought he meant and old "Milwaukee" drill or sawzall or something.

Just bustin your balls, I hope you know.

Looks good though. Is block foundation that much cheaper than poured forms?? Don't really know as in the Chicago area, everything is poured now.

Drink old mil cause thats what the old man drinks, I'm a miller man myself. The footings have re-bar in them, its code. Not winging it, just changing a few room sizes and windows here and there. All gable ends cause I'm not a fan of the hip roofs. Only looks like that cause the basement is block and the garage and porch are poured walls, All the basement walls and garage walls with be covered with efis, trust me it will look nice.

Looks like a good start. You will get alot of satisfaction (and save $) doing it yourself. The fact your dad is able to work with you just makes it better imo.
