I have a cheap 60k BTU 4 burner plus a side burner grill which I got on close-out from a warehouse club about 6 years ago. One of the burners rusted through after about 4 years. I replaced them all for about $25 from eBay and got a 5th as a spare (auction was for 5 of them). The exterior still looks awesome though and the knobs work okay.
This said, I've considered building a grill myself into a patio kitchen. I think I'd buy another grill (to have a brand new one) instead and use it's upper section to put into the stone facade. I'd make sure I could get replacement burners and probably buy them right away to just have on hand. This way, fit and finish won't consume my days until I have it perfect by building from scratch.
