Nice build Toel. Here's the slides I bought. My box is framed of 1 1/2 sq 16 gauge box tube and will be skinned with 20 gauge(already cut -bent-primed). The slide mounts were done on the drill press in a fixture. 1 1/2 x 1/8 flat bar, then welded in flush with the inside of the box tube.
The corners will be 1 inch aluminum clear anodized angle(window builders stuff) to cover up the seams and spot welds.Already cut and on the shelf.
The$e are good rail$

Welcome to GJ. I agree with you 100% dont know why people pay thousands of dollars for some sheet metal and few casters. Good luck and cant wait to see your progress. Keep us posted please.

If I were you, I would seriously consider using rivet nuts instead of pop rivets.
They set like a rivet but have a threaded hole in the center. I use them all the time. I also work 2 days a week in a factory that uses them on the product they produce.
This way you could unbolt the slides any time you wanted.

If you want to use 1/4-20 bolt, something like McMaster-Carr 95105A143
If you use 10-32 machine screws, something like Mcmaster-Carr 95105A135
Make sure you check your thickness and compare to the grip range.
Metric threaded sizes are also available.

Looks good so far.

Iv never even seen those before. I will ask my parts guy at work tomorrow if he can get me some. Thats a great idea.

Only thing id be worried about is it being a low enough profile for the drawer slide to go over. Those rivots are cuttin it pretty close to hitting already

That's cool.
I've always dreamed of designing and building my own box.
I don't know how to weld or fabricate with metal though, so I'd probably build it out of wood with some simple metal parts, like a tubular frame or something.

Update. So today i decided i was just gonna use pop rivots instead of rivuts. For me i cant justify the cost of buying one. So i built the firat drawer. Does not have the front cover/hadle on it yet so its a little flimsy thus the drawer doesnt want to open/close very nicely. Tomorrow ill bend that and see.
We will see how these FREE drawer slides work. In the back of my mind i hear a voice saying i might have to cough up some mulla and buy super heavy slides
