I'm really enjoying watching this project. Great work.

We will see how these FREE drawer slides work. In the back of my mind i hear a voice saying i might have to cough up some mulla and buy super heavy slides

In my experience, free often ends up costing more than using the correct part in the first place

Ah yes but i can use these slides for other smaller stuff. The top drawers are gonna be 12 gage mild steel. (.109)
But i was thinkin now that i have to get new slides most likely to make the drawers out of 10 gage aluminum. I got some slides price out from our snao on guy. $170 a set or my parts guy can get me 400 lb slides for $70 a set. Both dont need to be rivoted. They just mount with clips. Just like all other tool boxes. But im at a stand still cuz im not puttin down $500 for slides at this moment haha

i will finish this drawer and see what its like fully built.

What drawer slides are,you using. They look like they are nice ones.
Can you put two on each side to fix the problem?
Can the problem be that you need some weight in the drawer

Before you go spend big bucks on slides you may want to check Princess Auto in Lethbridge. I few weeks ago i bought good slides in their Grande Prairie store for cheap.

hey guys been awhile and sorry no new updates on the box except some decisions iv made on the drawer slides. as of right now going to college in a week for my final year of welding my budget is a bit low. so iv decided to go a different route on the drawer slide style. I might even build my own. here is what I have I in mind. Hevi-Rail make these really nice heavy duty bearings, iv contacted them on price or ill see if my parts guy can get me this style of bearing. or ill just get some 1" roller bearing and run them in C-channel. same idea. 2nd idea I have on doing is these Linear type slides. these I can build and machine myself. I first want to see the price on the heavy rail system

That's a pretty cool idea I would only worry about the concentrated stress on one point

I would be putting more than one on each side and maybe one on the bottom of the drawer where it would sit on in the center of the drawer

Give it ago, without people like you we would still be living on caves, what's the harm in trying? Just make sure you select the right depth of linear bearing to ensure full drawer extension

So i got my parts guy to get me some of these 1 1/8" bearings with an I.D of 1/2". Gonna try this on one drawer and see how well this works. I recently built a slide out compressor tool box for the town and it worked really good. Only crappy thing is the drawers wont come out the full 24". Only 20" but i guess im ok with thatuploadfromtaptalk1424905691657.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424905843368.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424905924981.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424906063319.jpg

Great project. This is one of the coolest builds I've seen on here. Can't wait to see more. With your talent, it seems like the only challenge you might face is deciding what color to paint it.

Thanks man. Also been tinkering on building parts for my rx7. Currently building an exhaust manifold and running a single 3" exhaust. Made my merge collector and a stainless cone to run off my merge collector. made the cone with the break press, all straight bends. Wanted to buy one but a custom cone to my dimensions was $300

Built the c channel today. Planning on putting a 1/8" strip of teflon on the inside of the channel so the bearings slide nicely

You're going to need a semi if you ever have to move that beast! I'd love to have the talent to build my own custom box!

As for the old slides, if you still have them. Found what looks like the manufacturer.
Martas Precision Slide Co.

These would probably be great for a parts cabinet setup for washers, bolts, screws, drill bits, etc. Make a nice large unit or so using them.

The company I used to work for makes linear slides, rails, etc. Some very nice stuff!

Did a little work on my box today. Almost ready to rivet some drawer slides on the smaller section on the right hand side. There will be three 3" and one 11" inch drawer there. I made that section 20" wide but once the slidea are in place itll be around 19" drawers.
