So i finally got some REAL drawer slides. Good for up to 500lbs. 24" full extension slides

Im not playin around anymore haha they will be for the two big drawers. Ill get smaller ones for the smaller drawers. Maybe 250lbs.
And my parts guy at work got them for me for $77 a pair

Yeah and these are much cheaper than snap-on. I was about to buy snap on ones as well but my parts guy found a supplier.

Update. Finally a little progress. Got a drawer almost done. I made a frame for the big drawer so it can hold more weight. They slide beautiful. I tried uploading a video but wouldnt let me.

This is great. I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I have some ideas I wrote down for mine if anyone wants to see them I'll upload em.
Alot of my ideas are from the shortcomings of current truck brand toolbox offerings. I thought very hard on what I dislike and like based on my Snap-on boxes and boxes of co-workers.

Yeah my co workers all have snap on or mac boxes. They are nice but i cant justify 15 grand for a box.

Well I have two Snappy boxes but I didn't buy them new. I got one for $2500 used and theI have a ton of storage and easily worth 12-15K if I bought new but I really want to make my own so I can customize my storage needs and have something nobody else has.

Yeah thas a big one for. A custom box. No box i have seen really applies to a welders needs for storage. Most of the boxes have very shallow drawers. No large ones so i can put my welding helmets in. And i also want to make it so i can fit a tig welder in the box in the future. So its tucked away from the elements

Yes I know what you mean. Hell as a mechanic I don't think those shallow drawers fit my needs well. In my notes I wanted to measure the sizes of all the plastic cases for my tools and then average the size add a little bit more and that will be my size/s.

I like what you are doing and congrats on your new baby.

I worked in a steel mill as a millwright and after one of our contracts they wanted us to weld so I took all the classes and we made a few custom cabinets. I don't miss twisting wrenches but I did enjoy my time welding and fabricating. We had an endless supply of plate and sheet steel to work with and now have been retired for a year and a half. I haven't struck an arc since retiring.

I just got a 1987 Rx-7 Turbo II for free. Needs a tad bit of work, but I think that's only because it was parked in the dudes garage for 3 years.

The one pic of yours makes it look like it's an NA FC, is that right?

This is my fc. A long work in process. Also have 4 other rotary cars in the family. An FD, two 1973 mazda RX3's and a 1974 mazda RX4 wagon. The wagon sadly is the only one driveable as of right now. Lol i

Back in the day, my uncle was a huge Mazda guy, he had tons of rotaries. Most of them got a new engine or 2 under warranty.
I had possession of his '74 RX4 wagon for a couple of weeks to do bodywork (lots of rust), and man that thing was a rocket! 4 speed manual, it really needed another gear. Crappy gas mileage though.

Very impressed this looks like it's going to be a very high quality box. Beats paying thousands of dollars on a box that probably wont be as tough as this one. Can't wait to see the finished product. I'd say your biggest problem will be everyone else wanting you to build them one. Lol. Could turn in to a lucrative business if you wanted it to.

So the local matco tools rep came into the shop today. Was a little upset that i used the same "T" design as their signature boxes. I just laughed. And maybe he was also upset i traded my matco tools in for mac tools
