Building near wellhead question

Does anyone know what the general rule is for building near a private wellhead. I want to put a shed up near the house to keep my tractor in the winter. The only good place I have is between the house and wellhead. I have 20' between the house and wellhead and was hoping to put a 12' wide shed there, with it being as close to the wellhead as allowed. I would ideally like to have it 2' from the wellhead. Shed will have a 12" eave so there would still be room to pull the pump straight up.

Appreciate any help.

They built my shop 1 foot from the well. Outside wall made a nice place to mount the control box. Wish it was farther away but you get what you get.

In your case, consider depth of well and what kind of drop pipe you have. Will you be able to hand pull or use an a-frame or need a truck derrick to yank it.

I have had buildings over both of my well heads. Just have a hatch built into the roof to drop a crane in to pull things out of the hole when necessary.

My well head is a couple feet from the iris' you see growing there, and it didn't cause any problems for this type truck. But, the tree behind him should've had the limb cut off before he got here. He did work around it, though.20210503_115700.jpg

Are you going to sink concrete footers or similar. I had one shed that I purposely laid treated 2x10s flat on the grass. Did a little scraping to get them level and built on top of them. The shed looked like it had it's own skis. I did it that way so it was very obvious that it was a temporary structure.

If you’re talking about a building without a foundation,I wouldn’t worry about it,if you’re pouring a footing, I think you will live to regret having it so close.

Appreciate the responses.

I will be reaching out to a couple local well drilling companies to get there opinion as well. I am sure they would prefer as much room as possible.

I was planning on building the shed on a pier foundation. The area tapers off away from the house pretty good. Leveling the area would require a retaining wall of some sort. Shed would mainly be used for storing my JD 1025r. I also planned to run power to the shed and have a subpanel for a couple other future projects behind the shed.

I currently have a HF 10X17 portable garage in this spot for storing the tractor. It serves its purpose but it is ugly and the mice have been a constant battle. I know mice will find a way into a shed as well but not as easily. Looking for a better long term solution.

This is really the only location I have that wouldn't require me to snow blow or plow a path half way around my house to get to the driveway. This location is right off a parking pad along the attached garage. My house is surround by woods, with the house sitting up on a hill. Semi-flat spots are hard to come by around the house. Maybe I could go with a 10X24 instead. That would put the shed wall 4 feet from the wellhead and offer a little more room to work.

Here there are no setbacks on a well head. The well head has to be a certain distance away from septic (and a few other things). Like others, I built structures directly over the well head to make sure it stays warm in the winter and handle all the well filtration. I poured the foundation myself (with bags).
