Building new camper slab

Hey gents, so here we go...

We’ve decided to buy my wife’s parents house. Her parents, in turn will buy an rv and travel. We would reno that home for us to live in. (Built in 1980). We will be building them a slab with power/water/septic for them to return to as a home base on property.

My question is this, besides the slab, etc we would wish to also build a pool house (maybe a little later) that would actually serve as a small residence as they are home in between trips. It would also serve as an actually pool house/MIL suite eventually. I am wondering what codes and nomenclature we should be looking into to accomplish this. We live in Georgia and we have codes involving having more than one residence on one property under a certain acreage. We would be sitting on 3.

I am looking to ask around and go talk to our co planning office for specifics.

Any ideas and draw on experience would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd make the slab thick for extra measure and peace of mind. Are you going to be adding a place for shore power, black water drainage and water hook up ?

You'll definitely want to talk to your AHJ about this matter. Tell them what you are doing, and they should be able to help you out. Maybe the term is something like "residential RV park" ?

Keep in mind they may have a time limit on normal use. Can only be used 3-6 months out of the year. Just be careful when they ask, how you answer. . . . answer with a question for clarification.

Also might not hurt to have tie downs designed into the slab if you are near the coast and hurricane risks.

Call it a non-dwelling "shed" or "RV garage" to start with, build it to spec for a dwelling and add what you need as you need it.

Rather than just a slab, if there's enough money in the budget a garage would be nice so they can get the RV out of the weather (and to protect it from sun damage, which I assume is a big issue in Georgia.)

Google "RV port home" for ideas to house & use an RV as part of a living space. The stationary part could include the "pool house" along with the protected parking for the RV. Include hookups for the RV & the parents can come & go at will. You could probably just tell the AHJ that it's just a pool house with parking for the RV.

2nd what Jinks is saying about how to describe to code officials. Build it as your pool house & RV storage....not as a second residence on the property.
