building new

Hey guys,
so looks like this summer im going to invest in a new Garage instead of a workshop/shed . looking for an approximate size to build? it will store tools, motorcycles, sidebyside and then lathe,milling and drill press, welder and large 60+ gallon compressor. i can max my wall height at 10 foot but not sure dimensions , it will be built to one side of my yard but don't want to loose too much grass have 17500SF.
all and any help is wanted

That's a pretty small lot size. How big is the house and where are you.. in the country or in town?

You don't want to invest a bunch of money into a building that looks wrong and ends up detracting from the value of the home.

Personally, I would not want to store stuff in a space that I use for working. To my way of thinking, a storage area is one thing and a work space is something different and they should not share the same space. In my opinion, if you must have both in the same building, then at least section off each area.

Build as big as you can afford. There is no such thing as too big. Trust me, I never thought I'd fill up my 55x60, but now you can hardly move in there!! LOL !!

i live in Canada small town, new development and the biggest lot , the house in a bungalow style with a total of 2800sf, i plan on making a small separation for when i need to work over the winter and store the bike indoors other wise the bike is out

That helps. Since it's a bungalow style your 10 foot wall height shouldn't be an issue.

Think you'll ever want a car lift? How about attic storage, is that something your after?

Do you want to match the house roof pitch?

How about a photo of the home / lot orientation for reference?

35 x 50 is a nice number to arrive at 1750sf.

You might want to have an internal wall with part of that heated + insulated for your metalworking (heated when you need it) and the other part simple inside storage for your things.

I'd consider scissor trusses if you ever think a vehicle lift would be useful, otherwise attic storage trusses pickup a lot of extra square footage for not much extra $ invested.

Nice lot layout. Unobstructed access and ties in with existing driveway.

You could build a pole style barn, that looks like a barn, way at the back....

Or stick build closer to the home /pool and match the home appearance.

What's your preference?

Are there any zoning restrictions... max sq-ft and set-backs?

Just to clarify, the 17,500 sq-ft is the lot size, correct?

would want to keep it to the right side of the property ( tear down the shed and built back there ) shed is about 10' across . so i'm trying to determine the right sizes going to keep it a single story with a reinforced pad but im generally thinking about 16-18 foot by 24-30 in length , besides the barn style ( have to look it up) any other ideas ( i added a new 10" opening gate to the driveway side this summer )

Or you might keep that shed- place the new building in front of it and incorporate the shed into the back of the new building- a new 'shed roof' off the back, might look like it all 'belongs'. Gives you storage spaced for lawn and garden tools, etc, that isn't in the new building....
