This is not about my garage....but it is garage related...I couldn't start this project without my new garage to store all the stuff....
As some of you know, I have started on a 2-story addition to my house.
Today was a good day....we did the foundation pour.
As many of you know who have done their own foundation work....it's a LOT of work. And you also know that any mistakes in the foundation translate into more work after the fact. I learned that the hard way on my garage...one of the big mistakes was not double checking what the contractor did. This time around I used the same concrete worker the contractor did.....and saved a bunch of money.
A few things to note....I planned ahead regarding my power. If you look at the attached photos you will see some gray pipe sticking up. One is for the underground power to my garage and the other is a nice 1.5" conduit to run a bunch of wires to the center of the addition. This will allow me to tie into my existing ckts a lot easier.
I am proud of myself in that I calculated 25 yards of concrete and we used 24.5.
And the final result. One of the mistakes of the contractor on my garage foundation was that he ran out of concrete (cheap *******)...I could have used about 1/4 more yard....as a result, the floor has about a 1" drop in the center....I made damned sure I didn't have that problem this time.
I consider this phase of the project to be the most difficult....and dirtiest. One of our rooms is half demoed....floor opened up....it is all but impossible to keep the house clean. I also have a back yard full of dirt. Tomorrow the forms come off and I'm hoping that I can knock that pile of dirt down a bit.
This part of the project also has the least obvious progress....now that it's done....I can start building walls....I love the framing part....kind of like a big boys erector set....
Anyway...time for a Cpt Morgan and diet coke.....along with a couple of Alieve's....my body hurts....it's been a long day...
