Is anyone familiar with the bylaws regarding garages in Toronto?

I'm thinking of selling my place and moving to a bigger piece of land to finally have the space to put up a decent 2-3 car garage out back, but before I start the long process I need to find out if it's even possible to put something like that up with the current building bylaws.

Ideally I'd just be putting up a prefab garage up on a concrete foundation, quick and easy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Permits and Zoning vary by area. Since the City amalgamation took place there are multiple differing regulations (left over from former municipal jurisdictions) depending on where you want to build. The quickest way to find out what rules apply to your site is to visit the Building Dept. that serves your area.

I just did a quick permit and zoning analysis for a client near me in Toronto and it was it is almost impossible to make any blanket statements about what rules apply for the whole city.

You may be able to find height, seatbacks and lot coverage restrictions for you area on the city’s website, but not all areas are included.

Here are a few links to the building dept. They should also be willing to give you some basic guidance on what is and isn’t permitted, without getting too detailed.
