I have an old farm building built in the 1950s. It was a old grain bin for ear corn. I am trying to convert it into a workshop. The building is 30x30x12. The exterior is oak plank with some old tin in pretty bad shape. I would like to refinish the exterior so it looks new.

I've had no luck getting any company that does pole buildings to even give me a quote to reskin it. I will most likely have to do it myself. I am pretty capable but have never done exterior tin work and want to do it right. Does anyone know of any reference books on how to do exterior building tin work? Or any other suggestions. It's a solid building it just needs some tlc.

Talk to a local supplier for the tin. Buy it from them and get a referral for a good installer. Not an installation company but an individual that can do the work. Might even be an employee of the supplying company that does it on the side. You can be the helper and that way you oversee the work, save money and learn something.
Just a suggestion but similar stuff has worked for me.

Funky building dimensions for storing ear corn. The old buildings in our area were used to dry ear corn so they had slatted walls and narrow storage sections to allow airflow. I mention those details because they also would not have tin on the walls. If it is an old corn crib, the tin was added later and wouldn't be structural.

I guess it doesn't really matter what the building was designed to do in the first place.

Pull the old tin yourself. It's a lot easier to find someone the throw siding on a clean slate. Flat surfaces and square walls can make siding with tin a quick job.
Items to think about before starting. - What do you want out of the finished building? Will you condition the space? I'd work out those thoughts before starting on the reskin. Insulation works best if you plan for it in advance.

Visit sales sites with smaller model buildings on the lot and take pictures. Same principles in a smaller version. Don’t forget to check youtube for metal siding installation. Once you get the principles a pair of saw horses and a few hand tools along with a ladder will get you a long way. Nice thing as a DIY is you can pretty much start and stop as you feel like it.

Check out RR Buildings on YouTube. Excellent instructional videos on metal building construction. I'll also second @mepstein suggestion in post #2. Visit an actual metal supplier and ask for their recommendations. What's your location? That might help other posters advise you if they happen to be local to you.

You would probably be better off not looking for a company that does post frames but rather a smaller contractor that does buildings or remodeling, like a 1-2 man operation. . . . more of an installer like @mepstein mentions.
