I work in the steel rack industry as a result I have picked up a lot of scrap materials dirt cheap. I now have enough steel to throw up a 16 by 32 pole barn for less than 400 bucks in framing. My question is this is 16 ft wide enough in your all opinon. We have moved into my wives mothers house and are selling our old house all I need is a place to tinker and be out of the weather I do not plan to live here forever as some day I will have to make a choice on what to do with my parents home it has a 30 by 60 with spray booth and 25 by 60 shed on back.My point is any major projects I can do there as it is only about 20 min away.I could go wider but I would have do some more fab work I am also going to make the frame bolt together and 16 foot wide I can handle this pretty easy. Oh yea I live in northwest GA.I am looking to do this floor sides everything for less than 5000 bucks. With me doing everything as I can do all the work myself Thanks.

16' wide is OK for my barn that I built in my backyard. Could fit a car into it and still have room on the sides for working space. And if you are going to be 32' deep, plently of room in rear section of building for bench and supplies.

Got any extra metal you would like to send my way????

Wider is better but 16' is a workable amount of space. Just make sure you don't add alot of deep shelves on the end if you plan on putting a car in the shop.

I could go 20 or 24 wide with a little fab work as I have plenty of steel but its extra work and my back yard is small. The 32 deep comes from the fact that my dad was going was going to build A barn and has some 32 ft rafters made up. He had some serious health issues last year and is now selling out his junk as my mom calls it.This so called junk has among it 1936 plymouth 4 door sedan street rod 1935 desoto air flow 1935 huppmobile not junk except in a womans eyes. any idea on how much more concrete would cost at 20 or 24 wide over 16 wide I know concrete would be around 700 bucks at 16 wide.Oh I forgot his 1947 chevy ramp truck all of these are for sale
