I'm a die hard snowmobile guy in northern MN. My dream of the perfect sled shed is already fading. We've already had snow on the ground. Let's back track a little.
In early June I contacted Economy Garages in Hermantown MN to build me a garage, nothing fancy - 24'x24'. I paid the down payment and cleaned out my old garage the next day and got a building permit 3 days later, then made a load to the landfill the following week. Ready to go on my end within a week of down payment.
A month and a half goes by, then the demo guys shows up to take down my old garage. YAY! Of course the first question asked as why wasn't the area for new ground prep staked out?
Economy was supposed to come stake it out, they didn't. Anyway moving on he takes down my old garage and brings back the first load of dirt. He stakes it out and.... there's a gas line going under the new garage. 45 minutes later contacting Economy again and the city he gets to work on the new pad and his work is top notch.
OK so I go to Economy Garages and pay them the next stage the next day and they tell me they are going to contact the city and figure what to do about this gas line deal. They never do. I call back 3 weeks later to see what is going on and am told that I was responsible for that gas line. I told them how they told me they were taking care of the city. They deny of course. So I play phone tag with the city gas dept for the next week (I work 12 hour shifts and dont have time for this ****). When I do catch him, in a 3 minute conversation he tells me to build over top of it its not a big deal.
There's a month wasted! So another month goes by and one day I look out the back window and there's a crew out there setting up forms. No contact they just showed up. The next day they poured the slab. The day after that they poured the apron.
Their work needs some help. There is a 2 inch gap about 3 inches deep between the apron and the alley. I'll need to go buy some concrete and fill this area myself. They also destroyed the nice work that the ground prep guy did and I'll have to shovel and pack all the sides down. And, the left big piles of hardened concrete all over my driveway for me to clean up.
Of course they covered it all in a big sheet of plastic so I didn't know. The next day I went to Economy Garages and paid the next installment.
That was 2 weeks ago. It has snowed since then. This is supposed to be my "sled shed" I totally rebuilt one sled outside during this time. I stripped the panels off my REV and painted them in the basement, filling the house of fumes. I have another rebuild to do before winter.
I've contacted Economy Garages several times and the "best they can do" is October 27 for build date. October 27. My fiancee's 40th b-day is the 28th and 2 months ago I made reservations for the 26-28, the "romantic package" at a Lodge up north. Great, I wont even be home for the build - if it even happens on schedule! Also, next month I'm starting a new job and I'm sure this will interfere with that as well. This has been so frustrating and I would reccomend that NOBODY use Economy Garages for a garage build if they want anything done in a timely matter. I have $12,000 paid to them now and nothing to show for it!
