Building work bench, ledger against pegboard

Im about to build a sturdy 8' x 30" work bench of 2x4's & plywood, was planning on attaching it to the wall studs, with some vertical support from the stem wall to bottom of frame, and double 2x4 legs on the front side. The bench will go where those 2 home depot rack shelves are now.

My walls are pegboard screwed right to the wall studs, with insulation between the studs.

Do you think id run into any problem bolting the ledger board on top of the pegboard? Like the pegboard eventually coming off the walls from hammering on the bench? I was thinking about cutting the pegboard at the height where top of bench would be, but it would be a bit of a PIA with a utility knife, i think my circular saw might make a mess with the insulation behind it.

I could also run a 2x4 horizontally across the wall higher up the to keep the pegboard from coming off.

Nail the ledger to the wall on the studs through the pegboard and call it a day.

I would think it would be ok. I think you’d really have to be hammering pretty violently with something pretty big for it to be a problem.

Tools may vibrate off their hooks if you do a lot of pounding, but it shouldn't affect the pegboard itself.

Agree, just screw through the pegboard to attach the board along the studs. BTW a single 2x4 is plenty strong for the legs, no need for doubled up.

Put a piece of 1x4 or 1x6 at the back to seal the benchtop to the pegboard so you have something more substantial in case of a heavy object putting a hole in the pegboard at the back wall.

This...I advise you to use sheetrock screws and lags...that way you can undo things later...

Mine is bolted to the wall and the pegboard is detached from the top to avoid too much vibration. I have redone the top, the structure to install the boxes and other tweaks over time. Using nails is less strong and makes remodeling harder.

thanks for the suggestions, i got this much accomplished this weekend.. used 1/4 x 4 spax lags into the studs, #10x3 or 3.5" screws for the frame.

Im going to have to use at least double 2x4's for each leg because I want one to sit under the frame, and one against the face of it.

bench is level against the wall, but the front of bench is a little warped (****** home depot lumber), gotta tweak it a little and then finish up.

Was planning on painting the legs and frame orange to match my new toolbox, and maybe stain the maple ply top black with some poly on top
