Built a new workbench/assembly table

This is my first thread on GJ and I just have to say, that this is a GREAT community and source of information. I've lurked for quite a while, but wanted to share my new build after getting motivated by browsing so many other spaces on here.

I outgrew the bench I was using before for my ********/bags assembly, so decided to build a full 4x8 bench/assembly table with a maple melamine top. Forgive the mess in the background of these shots, I'll get some better shots once the rest of the garage is cleaned back up. Things got moved around a lot during this built so it's kinda messy currently.

This is my old setup, that worked well for a time, but just didn't provide me with enough surface area or tool storage.

Used pocket holes for everything (thanks Kreg) I use this method on all of my ******** sets as well

The melamine top is mounted to a 3/4" particle board layer to eliminate "bounce" and the legs have been reinforced by doubling the 2x4s

Built the table at the same height as my table saw / first set of boards on the table

Finished product / lots of space for tool & misc storage

Nice workstation! So those are "Pocket holes" at all of your joints (and the jig in your avatar)? I just free-drilled some pilot holes and used a router bit in my dremel tool for the countersink

Also, my uncle made some similar games that had three holes and were covered in carpet. We tossed some large industrial-sized washers for that one. "ring toss"

OSU boards were personal set for Gordon Gee. scUM/PeeSU set were for the guy that makes my bags. Steelers set...well, you can't turn away orders.

You may like these better if you're a Browns fan.

Hey man, Westerville here, not too far from Easton. Tailgate once at an OSU game and you're hooked on ********.

I did make a minor change to the table today which really helps me to have everything I need right at arm's length.

I see that you used the kreg jig to attach the 3/4" particle board to the frame, but how did you attach the melamine top the the particle board?

Did you use glue?

Did you run the pocket holes at a certain depth to attach both tops?

To mount the melamine to the particle board, I just used 1&1/4" screws (lots of them).

Yeah, the boards are built to spec. Prices vary based on complexity of design.

So I had a few requests for the parts list for my bench and I worked up a little guide for the parts I used. Only thing I didn't include was the parts for the middle shelf on the end half of the bench.


A(6) 2 x 4 x 27.75
B(6) 2 x 4 x 34.5
C(4) 2 x 4 x 96
D(3) 2 x 4 x 42
E(3) 2 x 6 x 42 (could probably use 2 x 4's also)
F(1) 49 x 97 sheet of 3/4" particle board
G(1) 49 x 97 sheet of 3/4" melamine board
H(6) 2 x 4 x 45 (spaced at 12" on center)

Nice bench. Here it is called ********. I have not figured out the draw of the game tho, they play it at bars all over town competitively. And those boards are crazy expensive too, for some shoddy work! I can only imagine what a quality set like yours go for, because you do some nice work.

I think the only thing I'd change would be installation of HD casters. I'd want to be able to move the table around.
