I thought I would throw this question out there. I'm looking for a couple of pieces of diamond plate approximately 3 ft. x 4 ft. I would like to mount a piece of it on the wall behind my grinder and as a back splash behind my sink. Anyone picked some up, Home Centers, Sheet Metal House, etc.?

Metal supplier (local or online) would probably be the best bet. Some will cut to size for a nominal fee.

If it doesn't have to be perfect, maybe a local scrapyard has some.

You can also check places that sell or install refrigerated walk-in coolers. They use it for door kick panels and flooring.

Trailer manufacturers, too.

Home center stuff may not be big enough and it is priced accordingly (bigger price for smaller pieces), but I have seen it at a big box.

I got all of mine from this guy . He'll cut and/or bend it to your size, his prices are decent and his service is great. He has an eBay feedback of almost 5,000 positive with only one negative.

I have a local scrap yard that sells new remnants by the pound. They come from manufacturers around here that make truck beds and toolboxes and fancy trailers and such. I'm sure you have a similar scrap yard in your area.

I bought some to use as door panels in my 4x4. The sheet was 4' x 10', 1/8" thick. If I remember correctly, it was about $80 from a metal supply company. Look in your yellow pages, do not buy from a home center or tractor supply - the prices are about 10X higher.

You can easily cut aluminum in straight lines with a carbide tipped circular saw. VERY IMPORTANT to wear long sleeves and at least safety glasses. A full face shield would be better. The chips are hot and sharp and they will go everywhere. If you need to cut a curve with a jig saw, use a coarse blade and change it as soon as it stops cutting - the Al gets "sticky" on steel and clogs the teeth.
