I noticed on Amazon that Tool Gopher is selling five packs of Irwin/Hanson taps and dies cheap. Many common sizes at 90% off list. I don't need them in bulk but it seems like a deal someone here may be interested in.

I have never ordered anything like that from Amazon but it looks like they really bend you over and get you on the shipping! Or perhaps I just do not understand their rates.

My experience with Amazon is that their ordering and customer service is really inconsistent. Then again, I have bought mostly books. I never know when my orders will come in either... I am still waiting on a book I ordered two months ago...

I bought a few things on Amazon...including tools. There is free shipping on orders over $25 or something like that.

Returns are easy too. I bought a set of drill bits and in the description it said it included the 1/2", when I got it, it didn't so they returned it no questions asked.

Somehow, "bulk" taps and dies sort of implies to me that you go on to the next one when the first one breaks... Not too big of a worry with dies, but broken taps can be an awful pain. Much easier in the long run to just buy quality pieces in the first place.

As for Amazon's shipping, I never have quite figured out the "subcontractor" bit with other places selling "through" Amazon. Especially when it means you don't get Amazon's "free" shipping deal.

I suppose that a lot of people just naturally think of Amazon when it comes to online shopping, so even though it is really through another store they are of the mindset that they can just go to Amazon and get it...

As far as I can tell these are quality Irwin/Hanson taps. They are just packaged in bags of five for the commercial user rather than in an individually carded single unit package for a typical retail display.

Think of Amazon like going to Sears at the mall, you walk through the Sears doorway, but inside you may find smaller stores selling hearing aids, glasses, etc. that aren't Sears and don't have Sears terms for shipping or warranty.

Amazon provides sellers with the web site presence, display, and collecting money, and sometimes enhanced shipping or even warehousing, but you don't get Amazon terms, you get what ever the seller tells amazon to charge etc.

Just go to ePay and search Reliable Tool or Reliable End Mill. If they don't have lots of drills and taps listed contact them, they have both by the gaylord full and sell good tools fairly cheap.

PAToyota, Bulk vs single means to me that if the product is junk, you get a lot of junk.. Where single, you get only one piece of junk.

Most people buy things in bulk ie. emery cloth , bulbs, carb cleaner ,oil , filters and taps.

If the quality is there, it's there. If not, it's not. Quantity and Quality are not interchangeable.

All taps break. I have used almost every brand out there and every type. I have broken 1 in. taps doing s/steel. Blind holes are the worst, even when using a tapping head It happens to everyone. Thats why they make EDM machines.

I am not rating these taps yet because I have not used them.
