No offense to the poster with the 'Product' shown when you open Garage Journal BUT my brother who is a Big Truck Mechanic came up a solution to scraping gaskets that works like Gangbusters. He bought a cheap set of wood chisels (the ones with plastic handles) and uses those. I followed suit. You get a variety of sizes and they can be sharpened --- because the metal, even in the cheapo ones, takes an edge as long as you don't chip them up too bad. They last forever.

Elroy "wood" have never considered that:

Has anyone considered using a "wood chisel" ? When it comes to engine gasket removal, Elroy has found that a nice 3" wide wood chisel does the trick just fine. The wide blade will bridge ports and other openings well and helps prevent gouging the surface. They can also be honed to a razors edge and with a lot of steel backing up the edge they are truly a heavy duty tool.

Caterpillar used to use gasket glue that was just about impossible to remove. A trick I learned from old Cat mechanics was to sharpen old files to use as scrapers. They will take some heavy abuse and hold their edge, as long as you don't overheat them and anneal the metal while sharpening them.

I used to like the wood chisels until I discovered the strikeable snap on scapers, now the old file and the wood chisels are going rusty.
