Just received this today from down in the Carolinas. A member on here alerted me to it, and the seller turned out to be a very pleasant, fair and helpful lady who was willing to ship the board to me. It's the first one I have seen for carpentry tools. Obviously, I'm stoked. I think this brings the total number of Blackhawk boards to twenty-six for me.

I fill them up as I find the pieces. Can't rush into it. Only rarely do I find this brand at my local flea.

Their carpentry tools are uncommon, that is for sure.

Those are the exact two I need, my man. They've been on eBay for a while. I'd be looking at north of $80 after shipping. Too rich for me at this time to drop on just two tools for the collection. :(

Bull those boards look great. The clips look sort of familiar to me.....

Lol, I thought of you when I turned the board over and saw it had these instead of the really simple sheet metal nuts like the newer boards have.

Did you get a case of the sweats and an eye tick when you saw the pic? :spit:

Bull, have you been able to completely fill any of them yet? I would love to see some pics from anyone who has a complete display board full now, and not simply more hardware store pics.

Some people line their garages with plywood, some people use OSB, maybe even sheetrock.

Then some people get resourceful and use tool boards :lol_hitti

My poor little sharing post looks like a lame hardware store photo?

I believe the closest I have gotten is within four pieces on one of the wrench boards. I'll try to get a recent pic for you.

Seriously, on some of my walls, you will be hard pressed to find the OSB with all the B-hawk boards in the way!

Funny in all these years I have never come across woodworking tools from blackhawk and I have seen a lot of tools. Bull what are the years we are talking about for woodworking tools is it from the sixties?

Did stanley make them for the new Britain company or did New Britain make them in-house?

Not at all Bull, no offense or comparison intended. Just didnt want people to start posting a million old hardware store pics.

Even amongst serious tool collectors, having an original board that is full is something to be proud of and to show off. Keep collecting. When youre old and your wall decorations are all full they will be worth a small fortune.

I am not sure about who made the carpentry stuff. if I look through some of my old catalogs, I can find the answers, though. I am nearly certain that Blackhawk offered some carpentry stuff prior to having a relationship with Stanley, but I could be wrong.

Oh, ok, I getcha now.

Yeah, some tool guy is going to flip a my estate sale. Actually, though, I am hoping that my tools will stay in the family. Don't we all, though?

I can't figure those out. I have never seen Blackhawk with that blue logo on top. The pics aren't good enough for me to get a clear view, either. But, as for the boards themselves, I do believe I have all of those examples.

Nice new board! I will help keep my eyes open for Blackhawks around the Seattle area.

Thank you, sir. With a nationwide network, I hope to be able to find the missing boards that I need for these sets :3gears:

That is a nice board. Look like it is in very good shape. I didn't know either that Blackhawk make carpentry tools. I have never run into tool board yet at the flea/swap meet.

my high school had 2 of the wood chisels. they are probably missing or abused now after i left.

i made the toolroom for that school. all the hand tools are evenly and nicely spread in the cabinets on custom holders and racks made by me. i miss that class though it was a teach yourself kind of basis because of understaffing

Well, yes; obviously!

Your tool boards are from the Litton era which was ~1968 - 1984, and pre-dates Stanley's acquisition of the brand in 1986 or 1987...

Good info. Despite my obsession with collecting the brand, and having a lot of their catalogs, I don't have the dates of these company changes in my memory.

It doesn't conclusively establish whether they manufactured their own carpentry tools, or farmed them out, though.

My catalog #227B, reprinted in August 1975, declares on page 87 that the carpentry tools line is "completely new" for that year.

Ya know, if'n you sand them boards down and lay some flat black on 'em, Breeze and me can hit 'em with some bitchin' pinstripin' and monsters. That would be cheaper than huntin' down all them damn tools!

Nice collection, Bull!

Hey, you already have a big "Bull" project coming up...don't get too ambitious :lol_hitti

Bull you have a problem. We need to get you to tool boards anonymous ASAP!

You are not lying. I'd be up around fifty of these things, maybe more, if I hadn't sold off all my non-Blackhawk examples.

News has reached me that thanks to a couple good ol' boys from Georgia, another board will be headed my way soon. It sounds like they had to pay a Kool-Aid price to get it for me, too. :willy_nil

The hand tool board is an excellent find, Bull!!! It's in like new condition. The prices on the planes don't look terrible (about the same as I'd expect to pay for Stanleys of the same vintage and condition). Most cast iron hand planes were copies of Stanleys (designs were from England but also manufactured by Stanley USA also). Once Stanley's patent rights ran out, a lot of tool companies simply copied them. There are still a number of very well made hand planes manufactured in England and the US and Europe. Here are a few links on planes http://www.recordhandplanes.com/ and http://www.jeffgreefwoodworking.com/commerce/handplanes/index.html,

I'll be keeping my eye out for any reasonably priced Blackhawk woodworking carpentry hand tools for you.

You need to man up and actually use the collections tools! Then it is easier to justify the cost! :lol_hitti

I'd love to see those and your others on the wall. (I couldn't fit a TB on any wall in my garage. I made a 8X10 sign I wanted up in there, and couldn't find enough bare wall to hang it...

I just noticed that the planes were re-listed on CL so I thought I'd bump this again just in case. They seem like pretty rare items.

I never even saw your post from the 18th; been a busy year, and my surfing time on here has been quite limited.

$25 for the pair is a price I'd jump on, yes, if they really are new.

If you can snag them for me, that would be great. If not, it's ok. I've had to cut back on the tool collecting since the school year started. No time, and no flea market finds to help fund my tool account.
