Want to add an 8 once ball peen with hickory handle to my USA made tool collection, picked up a Stanley to find out is was made in Mexico, then drove to Lowes their kobalts are made in Taiwan. Then finely drove to Sears, craftsmanship are USA made, big letters on the head but all the heads were loose and the hickory handle felt very ruff and unrefined, go figure.

Well, I guess I'll have to spend more than I thought and buy a Klein

Am I a nut case over tools or what?

Look used? I've had a True Temper 8oz ball peen for thirty years, and it gets used often. One of my favorites.

I'd keep looking at other Sears stores for better examples. Blue-point hickory handled hammers are US made and I believe the same for Red/natural handled Proto hammers

Proto ones are made in USA.

I would stick with USA made hammers.

Wait for the next Zoro 25% sale and load up. Prices on Proto already beat all other internet retailers and with 25% off its a deal. I got 8, 12, 16, 24, and 32 oz ones at the last 30% off sale and saved a pile.

If you're willing to give up on steel head/hickory handle, there's the Trusty-Cook dead blow ball peins which are American made.

Cmans are made by Vaughan. I have several Cmans and they are rock solid. I've never seen one in store that had a loose head.

I bought a 6oz Vaughn and the head was slightly crooked. I noticed this with craftsman hammers as well, but they were much worse. for hammers 16oz and up I prefer either SO or Trusty Crook.
