I put down 5g of Hd40 over 1600sq/ft of power troweled concrete. I tried to burnish it last weekend and it didn't go to good. First, renting a high speed polisher was not as easy as I thought, I'm in SE ma and nobody had one. Finally a got one after a bit of a drive, 20" 1500rpm 1.5hp 15A...not a bad machine. I had already bought a box of 3m top line 3100 pads. I have a IR gun so before I started buffing I shot the floor...80F. Started buffing in a small spot and I could only get it up to 90F if I sat there for 10min...so there was no way in hell that was going to work. So I then just screwed around to see how it would polish out...the 3100's just bounced off the hd40. Then I ran down to HD and got some 17" black pads, all they had was synth...I thought they might melt but the didn't. I tried buffing with the black pads and of course they cut better but it was still tough to get the temp up. I ended up just running the black pads over half the garage and then ran the 3100's over that. It came out ok but I still want to do it right plus I need to do the other half.
So the question is what pad grits are you suppose to use to buff this stuff?
And is it too much work for a an electric buffer?? Do I need to find a propane fired one or something that has some weight to it? If I hogged down on that electric one it would blow the breaker ever time.

2000xpsd you are diligent! Honestly, the first question we have had regarding the temp!
HogsHair Pad is the one. High natural fiber content and is best for hard floors like concrete.
As it creates a relatively low temp level in comparison to other pads, I believe whatever machine you are using (under 3K RPM) should be sufficient.

Lastly, the degree of sheen you receive (not gloss) will depend ultimately on how smooth your floor is to begin with.

Ok so I used the wrong material pad??? The ones I used where 3m top line 3200's...info says "The pad is made of high quality synthetic fibers in a non-woven web bonded with a durable resin system that permeates the entire pad."...that doesn't sound like hogshair to me.
So get a hogshair pad at the highest grit I can and do it again???

Some spots are like glass, but it took a long time to knock down that way. Any pad(s) out there you can recommend for me to get that? What would be your guess on long it would take to burnish 1600sq??? ...just a rough guess
