Busted my Craftsman work light...take it back?

This is the light. I broke the hook on the top side, then proceeded to break the bottom hook the next day. Light is pretty useless without the hooks. All I have left is the magnet, which is barely strong enough the hold the light on the chassis. Man, who designs these things?

Can I return it to the store for another? Or do you think I'll have trouble? It doesn't look beat. It's about a couple years old. I'm not "satisfied" for sure. I still have my other old Craftsman single bulb work light and although the lens is cracked, the hook is still in one piece.

Hey bmwpower ... you might be out of luck; I don't think the light has a lifetime warranty ...

4 inches of bent coat hanger + cable tie or hose clamp.

I've got one of those too with a hook broken off. I just haven't looked at ways of fixing it yet. The coat hanger and hose clamp looks like a good idea. The original plastic hook was just to brittle, I've been happy with the light overall though.

What if it was a gift (which it was) and I have no receipt?

I would epoxy an improved hook on. Epoxy is very tough and will likely outlast the hook on a new light.

I view work lights as a "semi-consumable" item. If you think about it, they are constantly getting dropped and stuff. We always have at least one on deck at work to replace the ones in the shop. The reels usually hold up, its the lights that break. So when the lights break, we just wire them using the cord on the reels.

as long as it has the craftsman name you can take it back to any sears, but without the reciept you might have some trouble with an exchange.
is there anybody that works there that you know real well that will retun it.
they get real picky on electric items.

I am almost sure you will be out of luck on warranty, I do not think it would qualify as a hand tool either. On the other hand, you have absolutely nothing to lose by testing their air!
