Bux Mag Drill

I went and picked up a nice milwaukee mag drill tonight and while I was checking it out the previous owner brought over this smaller bux mag drill and offered it to me for the taking if I bought the milwaukee. It looks like it is missing the magnet part of the base, but everything else seems functional. The light even comes on for the mag switch, but since there's no mag on it nothing happens. The drill part seems to work fine.

I am pretty sure I won't be able to find the original part (maybe if I'm lucky). I was curious if anyone has had a similar problem, and what would it take to adapt a new mag onto the base. This size drill would be a great addition to the milwaukee, since it's about half the size. I included some pics, along with the same bux mag base that has the missing part. I also included the milwaukee to show its previous owners pretty paint job.

Anybody done something similar?

find out if it is an electromagnet or one of those mechanical magnetic ones... and estimate how many pound hold is that magnet...

if it is electromagnet maybe find out the voltage of it is using, I see two bridge rectifiers across some AC inputs so if it is a 120V it would be RMS about 170V-ish... DC. Build or made one ?

Ebay have a lot of those electromagnets in different size shapes, mostly round or square/rectangle.... just make sure you size the correct voltage and magnet strength.

Or there is that Youtube guy... two of them have build something similar maybe you can take some idea from them..

Make In Poland and Make it Extreme , I think both of them have build / DIY something similiar for electromagnet or mag drills...

Thanks for the reply, I will check out those channels. I made a similar thread on practical machinist and someone mentioned I should just mount it to a piece of plate, then just clamp the plate to whatever I am drilling. While that would work fine, I would really prefer a mag on the bottom for quicker setups.

There are also other less famous youtuber making them out of MicroWave oven Cores. and resin and a strips of metal as base., when you google those two, it should link up for those... the differences... well microwave oven transformer cores are 120V ...happy hunting.

I have a similar machine dah16 it's missing the rectifier and how it connects to the circuit board would u be up to taking pic of ur wiring system or drawing out a schematic. And sending it to me [email protected]. thanks. If I can't fix my unit I would be up to selling my unit as parts
