In two weeks I will be in California for vacations and want to buy some Snapon tools.

The tools are sold off the truck -> how can I catch one?

Or can I buy the tools in regular stores?

Many thanks in advance!

No, you have to find a truck. Ask around at a busy automotive repair shop and they can tell you what day to come. I'm not sure on SO's policy or prices on shipping to Germany but then there are probably other reasons it is preferable to pick the tools up and bring them back with you. Hopefully the tools you're looking for are those that are usually stocked on the truck.

yeah just stop at a shop. or if you see the truck you could always stalk him until his next stop. you could get real lucky and find him stopped for lunch.

Where in the LA area are you staying? Or are you staying in Los Angeles? If you venture into Orange County (specifically Brea/Fullerton area), I can refer you to a Snap-on guy that helps me out.

You could call Snap-On when you get here. I'm sure they would give you the closest trucks number.

chasing a snap on dealer can be a pain
I am in the Tulare-Visalia ca area (central california)
look it up on a map and see if you will be coming through the area at all (even passing through)
if you are I can get you the stuff from my dealer and you can pick it up from me.

also look at some of the members that may be able to sell you some used stuff for a deal

There`s always pawn shops and craigslist. I`m sure someone here can help you out if you could be more specific on dates/locations, and what tools you seek.

If you want to contact a dealer directly, call the 800 number once you arrive in the U.S., and give them the city or zip code of the place you'll be staying; the customer service rep will then give you the local dealer contact info. That's what I did, and when I called the Snap-on rep in my area, he provided the name of one of his stops that was near my house; very easy.

How much are you expecting discount off the truck.

Why not just plan accordingly, and order it off the website and have it shipped to where you're staying

Unrelated, but worth mentioning... I am in San Diego for work right now and love the swap meets here. All kinds of fun stuff, including quality tools at cheap prices. I am not sure if they have them in LA and San Fransisco, but if they do, they are worth checking out on a day off.

Purchase from the website and have them shipped to your hotel. Much less hassle than chasing down a truck.

If you are tracking down a truck, and know what you want, find the dealer's number and make sure it's in stock, or that he can order for you and have it in time for your visit, so you don't go home disappointed...

If you are staying near West Covina, the Snap On dealer stops at Penske Mercedes Benz on Fridays. I suggest calling Snap On though. Best of luck!

How about a Hazet / Stahlwille swap for Snap On items with a Garage Journal member? You bring over the Hazet / Stahlwille and they provide the Snap On

Of course, making the monetary values equal might be challenging.

Have a great trip
