Today the MAC man stopped in the shop, and as usual I felt like wheelin' and dealin'. I think I might have pushed it too far today. I asked him about any heavy duty tools he had, and he just picked up a used 3/4" IR 261 impact wrench. He wanted $150 for it, and I considered. We went out to the truck and the impact passed my inspection so I asked him about a socket set and he gladly showed me a Sunex 9 piece set that went for $148. I told him $220 and I'd take the lot.

Now the math: I pretty much got a 3/4" impact for $70 and a socket set for $150. I feel somewhat bad now that I think of it and don't want to cause any further deals to not happen because he usually does me well when I pay cash. Is it normal for dealers to do "combo" deals this good, or did I catch him in a tight spot? I really want to continue doing business with him, and don't want to offend. What are your opinions on my situation? Should I keep trying to deal or am I just going to offend him and end my good deal streak?

I wouldn't worry about it, he had the final say in the deal and he went along with it so you should be good to go. Now what does get some guys in trouble is they start expecting those kind of deals every time they hop on the truck but I don't think you have that mindset so don't sweat it.

Alright, thanks. :) He is a really humble guy to be around and wanted to make sure I didn't take advantage of him. You are right in saying he did have the final say in it. I do feel better about the situation, and now I'm off to find a bigger air hose.

A truck tool dealer knows how to say no, or make a counter offer.

Sunex Tools 4687 3/4" Drive 12-Pt Thin Wall 9 Pc. SAE Impact $82.99 Toolrage.com

Last used IR 261 on ebay sold for $172.

Sounds like you got a good price, but I suspect he was still making a profit and found it a good transaction to make.

As a seller, if I make a bad deal, I don't blame the guy who made the offer, it was my decision. I'll make a bad deal here and there but as long as I make enough good deals, it all comes out in the wash. I try to think of business as a baseball game. Home runs are fun, but let me make singles and doubles, and I'll do just fine. And sometimes you get walked and sometimes you strike out. I always try to learn from my mistakes. And one bad sale isn't gonna put the guy out of business.
