Buying a new drill - Corded or Cordless?

both.


I've got 3 or 4 dewalt 14.4's
a dewalt corded 3/8"
a ridged 1/2" hammer drill


I use the cordless's 90% of the time

I would have a hard time finding batteries for the cordless tools that I purchased 25 years ago. These tools were used professionally by me, and taken good care of. All of them are still functioning, they just don't have batteries that will hold a charge.

I have very few tools that have become obsolete like my cordless tools have. I have worn out a lot of tools, but that's different. Cordless have an immense value in my work, but they aren't the only option.

Would you not say that a cordless tool with no good batteries is worn out? I'm not trying to devalue corded tools, they have their use and also have longer life spans. We only have the manufacturers to blame for always changing their designs in order to sell us new tools instead of new batteries.

I've never had good luck with battery life so I buy corded power tools, but the contractors I know prefer cordless. One, who has done several jobs for me, has battery problems EVERY time he's doing something for me. He uses Rigid because of the "free replacement batteries for life" deal, but for what he paid up front - ouch!

I have a m12 milkwaukee hammer drill and impact driver combo which I love. I plan on buying a corded drill for the few times I need to drill a hole thats to much for a cordless drill. But for the most part, this combo does everything I need around the house.
