I am looking at a 15 year Snapon KR 560, Torin, Sam club and Costco boxes. Any recommendations?

I was just concerned about buying a box that was 15 years old and from my understanding, bearing slides are the way to go and this one I believe has friction slides. I know the specs on the other boxes are comparible on paper. I have never actual seen a snapon box. This would be a sight unseen purchase. Do they use thicker gauged steel? What about the paint. The others are either stainless steel or powder coated.

Not a thing wrong with good friction slides. I have a 40 year old Snap on, built like a tank drawers open with ease. Same with the 25 y.o. Matco, 25 y.o. Snap on, and the 59 year old Mac. You have to clean and lube them once in a while.

On the other hand I wouldn't buy any used box sight unseeen

This is a 25 year old KR 560 with all friction slides except the largest drawer on the bottom, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I expect it to go another 25 years with minimal problems if any.

Why is this a sight unseen purchase? :headscrat

Between the options you laid out... I'd go with the old S/O... it's built much heavier and will outlast most of those new boxes. I've got a KRA friction slide bottom box from 1982 and it still works like new. Don't be afraid of the age if the condition is good.

However as others have pointed out.. there are other options available as well.

An old guy i work with has that kr560 that he bought in the 80s and he beats it up and doesn't take care of it at all. Still very functional, just looks like hell.

I've got a KR555, friction slide, loaded with tools, it works great. Bought it new in the early 90s.
