Hi to all. been some months/years since I have posted here. I could say I have been too busy to post, but, I generally read some of the threads weekly.

Reason for this thread. My home has two 13' x 7' garage doors. One door needs replacing....I think it is out of shape or what ever as it difficult to open with the garage opener. I've search the box stores...Home Depot and Lowes and the people there don't know what I'm talking about when I say I need a 13 foot wide door. They have it their brain only 10' x 16' doors.

Anyone know if such a dude (13' door) can be bought today?

I ordered a non-standard roll-up garage door from Menards for an old (1942) garage that I converted to a storage building. There was no extra charge for the non-standard size. In fact, they even gave me the sale price.

If you go on the website of the big orange store you can order custom sized doors

Oh yeah - just probably have to deal with a local garage door company. Big box doesn't handle custom sizes so well.

I just did a 12'8"x6'6" garage door on an old real carriage house last week. Took an extra couple days lead time, and they only had 1 option for panel design - but totally do-able for 99% of door companies.

Don't ask.
I went to a local (about 30 miles away) installer. They sent someone out to measure the openings. Suggested some minor changes to the framing to improve installation.
Took about a month to get the doors. Price was in-line with the box stores and had a better selection of doors (and had them on display).
I drove over, they loaded up my truck and trailer with everything I needed.

We put up a new garage 2 years ago that is a work in progress. Our door is 18' wide and came through the local garage door folk.

Two months after we started using it son backed car into it. Bent bottom section that had to be replaced. Took 2 weeks to get new panel.
