Viewer facing flag displayed flat, stars at top left, always, because that's how I learned it in Scouts almost seventy years ago.

This has long been a contention between some members of the military and everyone else.
Rant on, bear with me. I working with a long cycle time so I have time to talk lol.
Frankly I’m of the opinion that it’s a free country and you should display the flat however suits you. Some disagree with this. Vehemently.
There exists a small subset of the population that feels the overwhelming need to tell the rest of us how they feel about how best to display the flag.
I have vivid memories of a veteran coming up and verbally berating our Boy Scout troop during a parade about how our flags were “wrong” on our uniforms. Like a bunch of 12 year old boys have any sort of influence over how the scouts display the flag on the uniform design. I remember clearly how awkward and uncomfortable it made me feel to be accosted by an adult over something so wildly inconsequential and petty that a grown *** man needed to go out of his way to yell at children in public.
Even though it is technically correct to always have the stars leading the stripes on moving objects like vehicles and people, it looks wrong and backwards on anything other than an actual cloth flag flowing in the wind.
I understand the logic of why the military displays their various insignia the way they do. There exists a flag code and of course the military of all organizations should follow it to the letter. I also understand that the general public has a very different criteria and understanding of how to display symbols. To anyone but a soldier, a backwards flag is distracting, out of place and cause more questions than answers. Instead of people simply seeing the flag and moving on they now mentally ask “why is that flag backwards” instead of recognizing the symbol it represents and moving on. It would be like if we redesigned stop signs based on the direction of travel. Symbols work best when they don’t require any thought.
The obvious solution is to just put the flag on the opposite side of the uniform or truck but that would be too easy.
It’s a free country, fly the flag however suits you. Rant off.
